Be a Great Dodger

If you throw well, but can't dodge, here are some tips to aid you in your performance.

Steps

If you are one of the better players in the game, people will do one of two things
  • Completely ignore you- if they know you can throw well, they probably won't want to catch your attention. Getting you out means that they might catch your eye next time.
  • Try to get you out fast- If they can throw well, they might want to try to eliminate you to help out the team. Here are some ways you can stay in longer and be more a more effective thrower...
Always carry at least one ball - If you have something to block with, you may not need to expend energy trying to move out of the way. If you have two, you can take more chances with throwing because you can block anything that they may throw at you as you're throwing. Note that deflecting a ball with another is banned in some leagues.

If someone starts winding up to throw at you, immediately fake a throw in their direction. This way, they could mess up their throw, but even if they don't, you have something to block with.

Act like you're about to throw at someone, or just stand in the front somewhere. Don't look at anything directly, but use your peripheral vision to observe who is getting the bright idea to throw at you when you're not looking. When they wind up, get ready to jump and block your body with a ball. After they miss, just throw your ball at their thighs and you should catch them off guard.

Play Dodgeball

If you want to play well in dodgeball, just follow these steps. The most important thing, of course, is to practice!

Steps

Stay behind and let your teammates get the balls, unless you're really fast. If nobody on your team is fast, then let the other team get the balls and just stay back and try to dodge and catch. If you and your team do get them, then roll the extras back to your side so the enemy won't get them.

Once you get a ball, hold on to it until the other team's best players have thrown theirs, then go up and throw it at some of the people who are not as good. Get the average throwers out first so there are less distractions. If you are a bad thrower, just catch them as they get thrown at you.

While getting ready to throw, stay crouched low to the ground and start to sort of gallop towards the line that divides the two sides. This will help you gain power for the throw. If they throw a ball at you while going towards the middle line, crouching and running up to the line will help you dodge it because you are ready to move quickly and you will be a smaller target. This will make it harder for them to hit your body and when they throw it, it will be towards your head and therefore easier to dodge because instead of moving your whole body you will just have to move your head. And, also, in some games of dodgeball, throwing at the head doesn't count!

When throwing, do not be afraid to turn sideways and almost fall then catch yourself with your hand to help increase power.

To catch a ball, let it come to you, don't go to it. Let it come to your chest and when it is about two feet from you start to bring your hands up to catch it. By the time it hits your chest your hands should be there to make sure that it has nowhere else to go. This should make sure that you catch it.

When dodging, always be ready to jump, as they will most likely go for your feet. TRY AS HARD AS YOU CAN TO STAY ON YOUR FEET. If you fall down it may look cool but it leaves you a sitting duck for attacks.

Practice jumping, throwing, and running...the essential ingredients to becoming a good dodge ball player

Think of the game as war. Pretend that you are fighting for your life and you are facing your greatest rival.

Pay attention to all directions.

Don't move if someone throws a ball at you! Sometimes, it will miss and you can catch it. The oldest trick in the book is to deliberately throw it a little far off from the target, hoping that the person will go in that direction.

A good strategy is to get some friends, then have them all shoot at one player from different points on the field. This will help you hit the target.

Do not show any mercy whatsoever! Take out the good players first so they don't get teammates out.

Be quick on your feet. This means no resting or "time outs".

Get two balls and throw one at an enemy's foot. He/she will most likely try and pick the ball up if he or she does throw the second ball at them.

- When you're throwing the ball towards an opponent do not aim for the upper body as it makes it easier for them to dodge it or catch it, aim for the shins as they cant catch it and makes it harder for them to dodge it.

Tips

  • If you're fast enough and you are not one of the better throwers on the team, rush to the balls and knock them back to your teammates. Almost all of the time, one of your teammates will catch a ball later and you'll be allowed back in.
  • Never rush to the balls in the beginning, unless the rival does the same.
  • Always stay in a crouched position! This is a very important thing to do.
  • Don't think about any situations that might affect the game (unless it is revenge, of course).
  • If the referee calls you out, don't argue because they can have you kicked out of the game.
  • Try not to lock your knees.
  • A good trick is to stand with your eliminated teammates along the sidelines as if you were out, but have a ball behind your back and be ready to surprise an opponent with a swift ball in the face.
  • Use the lob and drive method. Get a friend on your side. Tell them to lob the ball high. The person you are trying to hit will think "this is an easy out. I should go catch it." Right before the enemy or target gets the ball drill the ball at the person or otherwise throw it really fast to get them out.
  • Never talk or interact with anyone during the game; it will only distract you.

Play Team Dodgeball

Dodgeball is one of the most popular games played in PE and is and easy to play. It's different from regular dodgeball but is twice as fun.

Steps

You will need at least 12 people to play. You can play with more but it needs to be an even number of people.

Get some balls. Make sure you have way more balls than the amount of players.

Find an indoor/outdoor area big enough for everybody to play.

Rules

Make sure each team is even.
Try to knock other players out by throwing balls at them.

Getting Back In
If you throw a ball at someone and they catch it, a person of their choice from their team who is out can come in. This is called a deal.

Pin Team Dodgeball

Put up 3 or 4 bowling pins on the court.
The object is to knock down the pins.

How to Win in Dodgeball

Have you ever wanted to school others in Dodge ball? If so, then this page tells you moves to destroy your opposition.

Steps

Don't ever stand still. If you do stand still, bounce on the balls of your feet to dodge if you need to.Try to stay on the balls of your feet at all times.
Practice catching very fast balls. Also, practice catching balls thrown at your feet. These are the two most common throws you'll see.

Try to throw low so your opponent has less chance of catching the ball.

If you're going to throw at a person's mid-section, put all your force into it, so as to make it more difficult for them to get hold of it.
Fake a throw at someone’s feet. When they jump, they'll have a split-second of air-time in which they won't be able to really maneuver much. Use it.

If your enemy throws low, dodge it. If your opponent throws at your mid-section or face, try to catch it.

Practice jumping and doing splits in the air to dodge low balls (if you're short), and practice rolling on the ground and getting up really fast to dodge high balls (if you're tall). Being able to drop into a push-up position quickly and recover also helps.

If you're a person on the larger side, then stay toward the back and let the smaller people dodge the hits. You'll have more reaction time to get out of the way, and your power shots won't be affected much by the greater distance.

If you have a ball in hand, use it to deflect other balls thrown at you (banned in some leagues). Try to deflect them in an upward angle (not back at the other team) so that when the deflected ball bounces way up, and then back down, your teammates can catch it, thus eliminating the opposing player that originally threw it while gaining an advantage in the number of balls your team now has.

Keep your eyes open for the closer opponents, but stay out of their sight. When they throw at one of your team, throw at them while they are unaware of your position.
  • The Lob and Drill technique: Player 1 lobs the ball high in the air. The opponent gets under the ball to catch. Player 2 drills the ball and gets the player out.
  • The Run and Hit technique: In the middle of the game, you wait for a ball to roll to the back of your side of the court. You, hopefully unnoticed, quickly grab the ball and run back and forth still in the back of the room. Staying behind the crowd either give the ball to a better player, or get down on all fours and dive under a player to quickly drill the ball.
  • The Sacrifice technique: This is the last resort technique. Player 1 stands in front of the best player and hands them a ball. Using player one as a shield, the better player throws as many balls as possible with protection until the shield gets out.
  • The Aerial Attack: 1 tall player and 1 short player team up. the taller player puts the shorter player on shoulders. They both CAREFULLY get a ball and drill at the same time.
  • Sliding Attack: Grab a ball or two. Sprint up to the line at a player who is also close to the line. Throw one ball at them, and, as you do, lean back and, just after you let go, fall completely down on your shoulder blades and slide. Put your feet down to stop quickly. Then, throw the other ball. Get up and dash back to safety as quickly as possible. This works extremely well if there is a ball just on your side of the line.
The Suicide Attack: Grab a ball and launch yourself over the line. Throw the ball before touching the ground. The opponent will be out, but so will you. Be careful not to be hit before throwing the ball.
  • The Suicide Attack (Version 2): Grab a ball and maybe a friend to increase your chances of hitting someone. Start at the back of your side. Run towards the front while screaming like a banshee. When you're at the front of your side, throw the ball as hard as you can and run back to the back. If you're lucky, you won't get hit!
  • The Pegging Technique: If someone runs up to the line to throw a ball over, run up and time it so that they are leaning over when you throw. When someone is leaning over, they cant move out of the way fast enough, if there close.
Ball Blocking. If you have a ball, you can use it as a shield to defend yourself by blocking your opponents thrown balls. Try and block their balls with your balls by angling your ball correctly so that their ball will bounce of yours and fly up so you or a team member can catch the ball. Sometimes this is not allowed.

Tips

  • Remember the 5 D's of Dodgeball: Dodge, Duck, Dip, Dive and Dodge.
  • Also, don't be afraid of giving the ball up to a better player.
  • Teamwork is the main key.
  • You will do much better if you keep tabs on every opponent. This takes practice as well.
  • When you distract someone, don't get to into it. It's very easy to not pay attention while distracting if you're really focusing on it. Try a synchronized jump or something- it's short, sweet, and as soon as you land while they're still gawking, you peg 'em.
  • If you are the last player and get out, don't be discouraged; you did your best. Same goes if you were the first one out.
  • Practice throwing a ball at a target.
  • What you do is stand still at the back , but not like a statue, Move a little, and only move if you have to. This works particularly well because the eye picks up movement first.
  • Learn techniques to throw curveballs, floaters, divers, etc. These special types of throws are very annoying and difficult to dodge.
  • If your not that good of a player then you could try the 'blending' technique.
  • Take chances! Make them scared of you.... If you are the last one standing hog all the balls

How to Play Ultimate Dodgeball

Have you ever wanted to spice up the game of dodgeball? Here's an idea.

Steps

Recruit at least four or more players.
Choose two captains to pick their teams.
Captains play 'rock paper scissors' (or something similar) to decide who picks first.
Captains pick their team.
Eight dodge balls are placed in the center of the playing area
Start throwing balls at each other, and if the person that you throw it at catches it, you're out, but if they don't catch it they're out.
If the player from the other team that got you out gets out, you can go back in the game.
When all the players from the other team get out, your team wins!

Tips

  • Tennis shoes are good for running.
  • Larger teams make the experience more fun.
  • Playing on a basket ball court is good because there is a half court mark that you could put the dodge balls on.

How to Be a Better Dodgeball Player

This is how to be a better dodgeball player being offense, defensive or a sprinter. Playing this fun game for a long time, i have found a lot of good strategies and tips for the game. Also at my school the rules are a little different but bear with me.

Steps
Throw the ball fast, this means being tall or having larger hands helps a lot with your throwing. Upper body strength will also play a role in your throwing arm.

Aim for the feet. The feet or lower legs is the best spot to aim for getting someone out. Basically the higher you throw the easier someone can catch it.

If you're tall catch the ball. If you are higher than most people in the game, a good idea would be to stay in the back to avoid the other team throwing to their hit teammates.

if you can stay in- You owe it to your defensive players to help them out and that means not getting out quickly. Try to use a shield person to help you stay in longer.

Always be moving, and observing waiting for a chance to get the ball. Go for the easy target when you get the ball.

Once in a while its okay to hold on to the ball, hide it behind your back till a easy throw is available.

For Defensive players

The main idea is to- Juke duck and dodge, if you can do these three things you should be capable of staying in long

Don't be greedy. If you are small or are not good at throwing giving your teammates the ball is a better way to go. If you aren't strong at throwing you can get out easier than if you help your team out.

Pick your shots carefully. Although you wont throw the ball quickly and you'll waste a bit of time the best time to throw is when someone that is decent is turned around looking the other way. Another good time to throw is at another player who is throwing and unaware of you.

Know your surroundings. Pay attention at all times. Anyways, knowing who has a ball, who just got out, who is not paying attention, who is good that is still in, is key when playing.

Finally mix it up go on the attack once in awhile, because the last thing you want is to be the last man standing.

Tips

  • Sprinter- Being a sprinter is quite helpful early on,if you haul or run fast, running in to get the balls is efficient to your offensive players.
  • Shield- Being a shield is for people that can take shots or can easily catch fast rubber coming at you. by being a shield to a fellow player you are helping them no matter if you get no publicity for it. it really depends on the game situation, if you want to shield a offensive player it will help him to shag more balls to throw and support his/her time of staying alive. A offensive player is better to shield but a defensive teammate works to because defensive players can get tired from running and dodging and having to rest for a bit gives him/her energy to keep playing
  • Suicide- if you're not big at playing this game in any other way being a suicide is a great way to go for your team. If you have seen earlier the hit players can still launch a ball at you. They can also trap the balls putting them below them so if someone comes near they can easily hit the person, but that's where you come in, try to run fast and slide (not pick up and throw) the balls to your team and if you can run back out if you are not hit.

How to Improve Your Dodgeball Playing Skills

Dodgeball is a commonly played ball game. Two teams are formed; one team forms a huge circle, and the other team goes inside the circle. The team outside has to throw the ball at the team inside and try to hit all of them or at least most of them out before their limited time runs out. After the first round, the other team goes outside and hits the team that was out before. Whichever team hits more people out is the winner. Here are some instructions on how to be a better player in dodgeball.

Steps

If you see the ball coming towards you, calmly move aside.

If the ball is approaching you with tremendous speed, don't cover your eyes and be scared; you might be hurt by the ball.

If the other team finds out that you are scared of the ball, they are more likely to focus on you because they will think that they can easily hit you out

Try different ways of escaping the ball, such as going up, down, left, and right and leaning front and back.

If you are outside:

Throw the ball at the team inside with all your strength.

Aim properly.

If you throw the ball and it misses the one you were aiming, make sure that one of your teammates catches the ball and throws. Otherwise, the ball will roll away, and this will waste time.

Do not stop to think whom you should hit, and don't just hit without thinking where you are hitting. This way, no one will ever pass the ball to you.

Think quickly as soon as you get the ball.

Hit the person closest to you or at least the one who is in front of you.

Hit quickly to confuse the other team.

Tips

  • It would be a good idea to create your own style of dodging balls such as jumping, dancing, or running.
  • It would be a good idea to have someone as back up who stands a bit behind everyone to catch the ball if it rolls away.
  • When you see someone who is looking at you and trying to hit you, don't move before that person actually throws the ball.
  • Trick the other team by pretending that you are going to hit someone and instead hit someone else in the opposite direction.
  • If you are outside, hit as soon as you get the ball

How to Play Israeli Dodgeball

Remember playing dodgeball in Phys. Ed. as a kid? Israeli dodgeball, or "Ga Ga" (meaning "hit hit") is a lot more fun, and doesn't hurt as much! It's a game that is best played with a lot of people, but can be varied to suit just about any amount of people.

Find a place to play. Ga Ga is meant to be played in a pit, about five feet deep and a diameter of about thirty feet, but you can set up your own "pit" just by clearing a large area in an indoor, hard-surfaced room such as a school cafeteria, and make the walls by turning benches on their sides, the seats facing inwards. The size of the "pit" may vary depending on how many people are playing. You want enough room to move around, but also have it closed in enough so the game is fast-paced and interesting.

Have all players stand inside the pit. Have one player or outside volunteer toss the volleyball up into the air, just about a foot above their head. As it bounces off the ground three times, everyone says "Ga, ga, ga!". After the third "ga", the game begins.

Hit the ball to make it touch another player below the knees. If they are hit there, they are out. If they block themselves, they are still in.

Use only one hand to hit the ball. You may only touch the ball once, but you may dribble it against the pit walls and you can touch it again after someone else has touched it. If you hit someone above the waist you are out. If you hit the ball out of the pit you are out. If you touch the ball before the third "ga" at the start of the game, you are out.

Aim to be the last person in the pit -- that's the winner. If the two last people are taking a long time trying to get the other person out, consider reducing the size of the pit to make it more difficult for the players.

Tips

  • Some people like to play that once you are out you cannot play again until the next game. Other people like to play that you can get back in by various ways. For example, if the person who got you out gets out, you may go back in, or you could go back in after completing, say, fifteen jumping jacks.
  • After you have played a game or two, you will start to come up with some good strategies. Use these! They will help you win!
  • Hold competitions and give out prizes to the winners. Have some fun!
  • Play to win.

How to Distract Your Opponent in Dodgeball

Distract Your Opponent in DodgeballDodgeball can be an extremely challenging game, especially if you're playing against a rough opponent. If you need some help on distracting your opponent, here are some tips.

Baiting Type 1: Wait for your opponent to run up to pick up a ball. As they bend over, get them out.
Baiting Type 2: This trick is called the meatball. If you have two balls or can collaborate with a team member, throw one ball up high for your opponent to catch. While they are focused on the ball they are about to catch, nail them with the second ball.

Conversation: Starting a conversation with the enemy player or team can be very distracting, but not only to the opponent! Be careful that you don't get too wrapped up.

Taunting: If your arsenal of tricks has run out, go ahead and call the other team names, or make fun of them. This is another thing to be very careful about! If you are the only member on your team who is taunting, you have just made yourself a target
